Types of open educational resources include full courses course materials, module is, learning objects, open textbook, openly licence the videos com test software and other tools and materials or techniques used to support access to knowledge. we are may be freely and openly available static resources, dynamic resources which is changed over time in the cause of having knowledge seekers in the working with and updating them.
OER are important because it is cost free. the cost of textbook rising at a rate higher than other consumer good. many students simply cannot afford to buy a textbook.OER material allow a faculty member to pull only strong material into their class new sections and chapters can be added and enhance the creating a work stronger than the original.
Teachers may use and open lesson plan on line to add an enrichment activity for students or to provide additional practice for students struggling with a concept. a teacher with a limited science lab might use open online videos to craft demonstrations of classic experiments
OER can:
- Increase access to education.
- Provide students with an opportunity to access and plan their educational choices.
- Showcase an institution's intellectual outputs.
- Accelerate learning by providing educational resources for just in time, informal.
- Add value to knowledge production.
- Reduce faculty preparation time.
- Enhance quality.
Disadvantages of using OER:
- Quality/Realibility concerns-Some online materials can be edited by anyone at anytime.
- Limitations of copyright property protection-creators should be careful what material they make.
- Technology issues- slow internet connection.
CONCLUSION
OER have been used in educational context in a variety of ways. These are a set of activities around instructional design and implementation of events and processes intended to support learning. They include creation, use and repurposing of open educational resources. It is handy and reasonable because of their potential to reduce costs.A large part of the early work on OER was funded by Universities and foundations. MITOCW, lumen learning, K H A N Academy etc are the famous of free learning applications.
